A Very Creepy Pair Of Underwear – Free Crochet Pattern

IMG_E8661

Auden and I love to go to the library once a week. We usually pick out new books to read together and he gets to pick a couple of movies we don’t own to watch during the week. A few weeks ago, as we were getting in the mood for Halloween, Auden found this book. Just about every week since he has chosen to check it out again. So when it came time to brainstorm ideas for his book character pumpkin for the library pumpkin contest it was a no brainer.

I decided to try to recreate the creepy pair of underwear. The creepy carrots may also join them but for now I wanted to get this guy figured out. It didn’t take too long to get the base down then it was just a matter or recreating the face.

So just in case you have a pumpkin to decorate this Halloween that has to do with book characters, here is the pattern for my very own creepy pair of underwear.

Notes:

This pattern is written using American crochet terms.

Approximate finished size is 7” x 5”

To make smaller or larger try varying the hook size and yarn weight.

The pattern calls for a foundation double crochet to start the underwear; you could use a chain 25 and DC along the chain to start instead but I think it looks nicer with a foundation double crochet.

Fold the piece in half with your hook at the left hand top right (for right handed crocheters) and single crochet 10 evenly through both pieces down to the top of the curve. Finish off and weave in the end.

Attach yarn to the bottom of the other side just above where the curve begins and single crochet 10 evenly through both pieces up to the top. Slip stitch to the first single crochet in the front. Finish off and weave in the end.

Attach your black yarn to a stitch at the top on the back of the underwear. Single crochet around the top and slip stitch to the first black single crochet and finish off weaving in ends.

Take a very long piece of black and stitch the hair on the front of the underwear from the bottom of the black stitches to the bottom of the second row of double crochet. It looks best if the lines do not all match.

Mouth (In Black using a G hook)

CH 11, HDC in the third CH from the hook, DC, 2 TR in the same stitch, DTR 3, 2 TR in the same stitch, DC, HDC, CH 1

You will now be working on the other side of the chain.

SC 9, SLST to the first HDC and finish off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Using white yarn and the needle sew on the teeth. I made three vertical lengths with a parallel length on top and bottom.

Eyes (In White using a G hook)

Row 1: Make a magic circle and SC 6 in the circle; pull tight to close; do not join. (6)

Row 2: 2 SC in each stitch five times; finish off leaving a long tail for sewing. (10)

Pupils (In Black using a G hook)

Row 1: Make a magic circle and SC 4 in the circle; pull tight to close; finish off leaving a long tail. (4)

Bolts (In Grey using an E hook)

Row 1: CH 5, SC in the second CH from the hook, SC 3, CH1 and turn (4)

Row 2: SC 4, finish off (4)

Row 3: Attach yarn at the second stitch and SC 2; finish off leaving a long tail for sewing. Weave in other ends. (2)
